720 SF Home Addition

The biggest reason we see clients opt for a home addition is simple: They need more space! A simple home addition can add more square footage to your home, increase the homes value and create a luxurious ambience in your home. In this project we added 720 SF to an open floor plan for a living room.

This job consisted of concrete foundation work, a negative pressure conditioned crawl space, subfloor, framing, posts, beams, roofing, cedar siding, windows, doors, insulation, sheetrock, mud, tape, texture, paint, floors, trim & these beautiful accent walls. All completed within 400 work hours!

Post & Beam Work

This was the most crucial part of this home addition. These 6x6x8 Douglas Fur posts support the 6x12x10 Glulam Beams which support the entire second floor on the Eastside of the home. The load capacity to support a second floor in a home is regulated at 40 lbs. per square foot.

Fun Fact: Glued laminated timber, or glulam, is a highly innovated construction material. Pound for pound, glulam is stronger than steel and has greater strength & stiffness than comparably sized dimensional lumber.

Framing Work

We sure do love the art of framing! Timber framing is a very old building science. Timber Framing is an ancient building method that goes back hundreds if not thousands of years. The building method was developed as a way to build strong and secure buildings out of pieces of wood.

Wood is considered an eco-friendly building material. Wood is a renewable resource, takes less carbon to produce than steel or concrete, and traps carbon that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere as the tree dies and decays. Building primarily with wood sourced from secondary growth forests that are ethically and sustainably managed is a great way to build green and to reduce the environmental damage and carbon footprint of your building.

Insulation & Sheetrock

To understand how insulation works it helps to understand heat flow, which involves three basic mechanisms: conduction, convection, and radiation. Conduction is the way heat moves through materials, such as when a spoon placed in a hot cup of coffee conducts heat through its handle to your hand. Convection is the way heat circulates through liquids and gases, and is why lighter, warmer air rises, and cooler, denser air sinks in your home. Radiant heat travels in a straight line and heats anything solid in its path that absorbs its energy. Since this home was built with a "Negative Pressure Conditioned Crawl Space" keeping this beauty warm will not be an issue.

Finish Carpentry

Once a house is framed and dried in with the roof, windows and doors installed, and all the plumbing, wiring, drywall and insulation are in place, it’s time to start finishing the interior. This is where finish carpentry comes into play.

Level 6 Finish Work

Finish carpentry includes interior trim and millwork, such as baseboards, stair railings, crown molding and casing around doors and windows, as well as cabinetry, built in furniture and other wood details. Finish carpentry ensures that the doors and windows inside a house work properly and that all the final design features are harmonious together.

Accent Walls

These accent walls were the last thing to be installed in this beautiful living space. It is not often in our industry that anything is random. Yet, these beautiful accent walls called for a randomized pattern of different width, stains & staggers making for a very beautiful end design.
